Diverse Facilities

PINS maintains it’s own facilities and equipment in two separate locations, one in New York City and one in Philadelphia, as a means of preventing complete loss of service to its clients in the event of a major power outage in NYC.  It’s primary facility, located on West 17th Street in Manhattan, contains the network operations center (NOC) and houses most of the equipment and office space for PINS personnel, including the CEO.  A secondary facility is located in the Verizon building in Center City, Philadelphia, and serves to provide emergency links for PINS core services in the event of a major power failure in NYC.  Clients can also take advantage of the Philadelphia facility as a back-up location for their servers.

Power and cooling in the NYC facility is provided first through a dedicated gas turbine generator on the roof of the building on West 17th Street in NYC, with automatic switching and balancing of power between the turbine and NY ConEd.  Battery back-up is also available as needed to provide power to core services and prevent interruption in service.  Power and cooling at the Philadelphia facility is provided by PECO, with automatic diesel generator backup in the event of a major power failure in Philadelphia.
